Sampaloc and I tried the IHOP at the BGC. A relative recommended it. We walked in and found a spot, a free booth, but I thought we'd try the second floor maybe get a better view of the outside, who doesn't like looking at parking lots and skyscrapers while they eat, right? It was packed like a jeepney enroute to Quiapo on a Friday night, so we head back down, scoot into the same booth we initially eyed and relaxed our bums and opened them menus. Pricey, like Friday's pricey, but alright, so? Let's see, it may be something great, so awesome, something to tell our grand kids. So we ordered. Waiter was smiling that practiced warmth, that's good, I agree that smiles don't have to be sincere, I prefer it actually, I think they're a little nutty when they, the service crew, break out to you a genuine sunny one, it makes me feel awkward too, but Sampaloc doesn't mind, but what the fuck am I saying, I freakin' waitered for several years myself, and I kinda loved it, mostly in bars though, different vibe altogether, especially as the night is my element, and I like being around drunks and whizzing by sisig on sizzling plates. Only lasted a week at Wendy's as service crew, manager was on my case because I slept as he gave his pep talk speech to the crew the first day, Sunday. My fault I was up all night Saturday partying? This was ages ago, back to Sampaloc and IHOPe this tastes good. We ordered: Mexican omelette, strawberry pancakes and bangus fillet. Bangus was not fresh, very bland too and a tad over-cooked, i.e., it was bad. The mashed potatoes that went with it was mushy like infant food, ewww, personally we like it chunky and milky and creamy. It was creamy alright, it was practically formula for the newborn, Jesus H Christ! Alright, not too bad that you wouldn't eat it, but if you're gonna drop a thousand plus pesos for brunch you expect certain things, otherwise, let's just all eat in carinderias, right? My coffee was good and in a macho big mug, and Sampaloc's apple (or cranberry) juice was refreshing and fresh. Pancakes were good, not amazing, something you can make at home with a chance it'd taste a notch better, if you happen to have had a good sleep the night before and it's a Sunday with no itinerary whatsoever for the day to haunt you in the morning. Mexican omelette, well, let's just say I can make better omelettes with my eyes closed, one hand tied to my ankle, while doing a bastard-style macarena dance, seriously! Plus I like my omelettes crisp on the outside and golden gooey in the inside. Theirs was dry all around. Alright, despite that, it was not that bad, but again, not as good as the bucks they swiped out of my credit card. So: service was great, we tipped our man, forgot his name, well, and smiled as we left their establishment. To hell with IHOP!
